Post: What Does the Average Vinyl Fence Cost?

What Does the Average Vinyl Fence Cost?

Installing a fence can be a decent investment for your home. However, homeowners know that it is not cheap to keep up with maintenance and renovations for their homes.

On average, Americans put up to 4% of their home’s value in annual maintenance costs every year.

With that in mind, you are likely curious as to what the vinyl fence cost is. Well, this guide helps break it down.

Consider the Height

Something you need to think about is how high you want this fence to be. Typically, the cost of fencing is determined by the number of linear feet that the fence is going to take up.

In this scenario, you may want a fence that is on the higher side. So, if you want one that is six feet tall throughout your backyard instead of four feet tall, you may have to plan to add 50% of the original cost for this fence.

Consider the Total Feet

Going off of the above, you will have to think about how big your backyard is. Linear feet does not just add up with the height of your fence but also how wide and how long your backyard is.

For example, let’s say that you have a backyard that stretches out about 20 feet long. Then, it is about 10 feet wide.

You are going to need lumber for every foot that surrounds your backyard in this scenario. So, if you have a larger backyard, prepare for that to impact how much you are going to spend on a vinyl fence

Removing Your Old Fence

Something that you cannot forget about is potentially having to remove an old fence. This is going to depend on what type of situation you are in because some homeowners considering a vinyl fence may not even currently have a fence.

However, if you do have a fence right now, it is going to take some manpower to remove it. You will have to consider the factors mentioned above for this because the taller and longer that fence is, the more expensive it is going to get.

Something else you will have to consider for this is the condition that the old fence was in. Was it worn down and falling apart? Or, does it still have a lot of solid lumber in there?

Regardless, just know that this is going to be part of the expense if you want to get a new vinyl fence.

Changing the Color

When you think of vinyl fences, you will likely think of the color white. Normally, this would be the correct thought, and it is likely the standard option that fencing companies will have available.

However, you may end up wanting a different color for your fence. This could be to increase curb appeal, or it could simply reflect your personality.

In some circumstances, this could mean that you have a custom order for your fence. As a result, you need to be prepared to pay more money for your vinyl fence if you want a particular color.

Thickness

Depending on what part of the country you live in, you may want to think about installing a thicker fence. For those of you that live in Oklahoma, this should be something that you are interested in.

It is no secret that Oklahoma is a state that is known for tornadoes. It is so bad that the Sooner State has the third most tornadoes of any state in the country.

What this means is that this area tends to be more susceptible to storms. As a result, you may want to consider installing a fence that is more resistant to wind.

To do that, you are going to have to build a thicker fence. If you go far enough beyond the average thickness of a fence, this is likely going to cost you a pretty penny.

Adding a Gate

One feature you may want to have for your fence is a gate. Depending on what your surrounding area looks like, it could be the most convenient way to get in and out of your backyard.

If your backyard completely surrounds a residential area, you may even want two gates attached to your fence.

Just know that a gate is a completely separate part of a fence. It has to get built on its own, and it tends to take more precision than your standard vinyl fence.

If a gate is important to you, that is something that you will have to pay extra for.

Privacy

Finally, you may be a homeowner that is looking for as much privacy as possible. While building a taller fence will point you in the right direction, it is not the only thing that you can do to get this.

You can have a solid perimeter within your fence with no holes in it. As a result, it will make it much harder for nosy neighbors or possible intruders to get a view of what is going on in your backyard.

Find Out Your Vinyl Fence Cost

So, how much does a vinyl fence cost? The answer is going to depend on how many features you want on your fence.

Do you want your fence to be taller than the standard size? Do you have a big backyard that stretches out? Do you want a specific color? How about a gate?
